Oiling Procedure

We recommend oiling your leash whenever retraction and extension start to feel less smooth or the cord is not retracting quickly or completely. In our experience in dry conditions this is about every 50 outings. If the collar is repeatedly submerged in water you may find that it will need a oil more often.

The oil port is on the backside of the unit. Remove the rubber plug, pull the cord until you see the inner port line up with the plug hole. Put a drop of oil onto the exposed spring. Do not over oil, the extra oil will leak out and get onto the cord. We recommend something like Versa Oil from Spot On products. Air tool oil or sewing machine oil will also work.

Rinse Out

If your leash is submerged in salt water we recommend giving it a quick rinse. The best way to do this is in a pail or sink where you can submerge the whole leash. Remove the oiling plug and submerge the body back side (side against the dogs neck) facing up. While keeping the unit submerged, extend and retract the leash a few times to flush the internals. Let the unit dry (inside face down) and oil when dry.
